Oscar bingo has returned! If it seems too soon, it could be because the Oscars are happening two weeks earlier than usual in 2020, on February 9th. The show will go back to its normal spot at the end of February in 2021 and 2022. Either way, Oscar bingo must go on. This is my twelfth effort to amuse myself, both celebrating and poking fun at Hollywood.
This year we’re looking for Joaquin Phoenix to give us a piece of his unfiltered mind, Golden Globes style. Maybe the Obamas will get a mention for producing American Factory, a front-runner for best documentary. (It’s fascinating. I recommend it.) Keep your eyes peeled for giant bows on dresses and maybe some polka dots. As always, owners of certain bingo cards will be hoping someone trips.

How it works
The file is an 8.5″ x 11″ printable PDF. There are 20 different bingo cards—print out the number of pages you need. Pages are designed to be printed at 100% to fit on US letter, but can be printed the size of a billboard or a postage stamp if you prefer. If your party has a color theme, you could get fancy and print on matching colored paper. Maybe gold metallic paper.
Mark off squares as events happen during the ceremony. First person to get five in a row wins.
Microwave popcorn, gift cards, candy, or mini champagne bottles make good prizes.
Matching Oscar party goodies
To create more rivalry among your people, there’s a matching printable 2020 Oscars ballot in my shop. Guests can fill out their guesses before the show starts. There’s also a poster. Proceeds pay my Mailchimp fee for sending out Oscar bingo every year.
Annual fallibility disclaimer
It could be possible to get a bingo ten minutes into the Academy Awards, or maybe there won’t even be a winner. Who knows! At a minimum, it makes sitting through speeches more fun, and everybody needs an excuse to throw a party. Even if it’s a pajama party on your couch.
